Principals and representatives from participating schools presented Medallions to each graduate as they walked across the stage. Students recited the Oath of Consecration and draped their medallions to reflect their committment to a life of purpose, devotion and dedication. Guests dined on a fabulous meal and were honored by Tony Gladney, Vice President of National Diversity for Harrah's Entertainment. The program included "Sweet Talk", an inpirational discussion led by Doretha Easler, Manager - Community Relations at NV Energy and Alicia Gibbs, Publisher of EVibe and the event's executive producer. Each year, EVibe donates advertising space to support women-focused programs, as part of the celebration. This year's focus programs included "Girls Day", (Boys & Girls Clubs Las Vegas) and "Race for the Cure", (Komen Southern Nevada). Washington, DC - Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced this week that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has temporarily dispatched two full-time employees to Las Vegas. These FDIC employees will provide assistance to Nevadans who had loans with failed banks. Because of the high number of Las Vegas area loans in receivership, this local office will provide Nevadans a point of contact to the FDIC. The two FDIC employees are Edmund F. The NHRP, a mortgage modification program, has been extended through 2012 and will provide for principal reduction for negative-amortization loans and coverage of prime two-year hybrid adjustable rate mortgages. Bank of America will contact homeowners who potentially qualify for principal forgiveness. "This is terrific news for Nevada homeowners," said Reid. The Nevada stamp features the Nevada State Flag along with snapshot art of the Nevada mountains and ocotillo plantlife. Clark County to receive $58 Million in Bond Authority for school construction

Washington, D.C. - Nevada Senator Harry Reid has announced nearly $64 million in bond authority for school construction for Nevada schools. Clark County will receive more than $58 million and the rest of Nevada's school districts will receive more than $5 million. Clark County School District (CCSD) and other Nevada school districts were not able to take full advantage of the bond authority last year. Thanks to program changes enacted in the HIRE Act school districts will be able to use both 2009 and 2010 allocations to make needed improvement to existing schools and build schools where the state has grown. "The Department of Education recognizes the need that Nevada's school districts have and the jobs bill we passed today gives these districts the ability to create jobs, especially in the hard hit construction industry," said Reid. "This funding will allow us to improve schools where our children study and where our educators work, even in the face of steep cuts at the state level."

March 17, 2010 - Black Press Week is the annual celebration of the nearly two centuries-old mission of Black-owned newspapers. "When Mr. Russwurm and Mr. Cornish said, 'We wish to plead our own cause. For too long have others spoken for us', they began publishing the very first Black newspaper on March 16, 1827," says Dorothy R. Leavell, chair of the National Newspaper Publishers Association Foundation, which leads the annual event in Washington, D.C. Black Press issues and issues of Black America will be the points of discussion during a State of the Black Press Luncheon/Forum at the National Press Club on Thursday, March 18th. The forum will feature NNPA Chairman Danny Bakewell giving a "State of the Black Press" address with a response by Leavell. Panelists will include the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., Rainbow/PUSH Coalition; Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Bennett College; Dr. Ron Daniels; NAACP Chair Roslyn Brock; Harry Alford, National Black Chamber of Commerce; and Marc Morial, National Urban League.
